Annette Bannister
Hi! Welcome to my website, where I hope you will find many helpful resources for you and your family regarding dyslexia and the services I provide for students who struggle with reading and spelling. Over the past two decades, I have held a variety of educational positions. I started out as a public high school English teacher, and after a couple of years, I moved into private tutoring for students from elementary to college age. For almost two decades, I taught language arts to individuals and writing classes to small groups of students while homeschooling my own children (K-12th).
In 2019, I began an extensive, one-year training program to obtain my certification as a dyslexia practitioner through The Children’s Dyslexia Centers. This IMSLEC-approved training also allowed me to become a Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP). In addition, I am a Certified Barton Tutor at the Beginner Level, and I have taught all ten levels of the Barton program. It has been very rewarding to help students learn to read when regular phonics programs were not working for them.
My academic background includes graduating from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English. I was a National Merit Scholar, a Phi Beta Kappa member, and a graduate of the FSU Honors program. I completed my teacher credentialing program in secondary English at the California State University at Northridge, and I hold a current Pennsylvania Instructional I teaching credential in English at the secondary level, as well as the required clearances.
I am happy to assist you in any way I can as you navigate making the best choice for your child’s education. My full resume and references are available upon request.
On a personal note, I enjoy hiking, watching football, grabbing coffee with friends, and playing board games with my family. I have lived all over the country, from Florida to California to Indiana to Pennsylvania! I enjoy meeting new people and learning from them all the wonderful ways that our uniqueness makes the world a better place.
